I tried them without the sub to see how hard they hit with the bass as well. These monitors are used to complement my Polk Center Channel, Polk PSW505 Sub, and bose satellite cube speakers. For the price these speakers are hard to beat. They set the bar pretty high. I am happy with my purchase and their ability to fill my 24x30 room. These Speakers are very clear.
They look and feel well built. Polk is always hard to beat. Just listen to these speakers and any of their products next to the competitions and you'll see what I mean. They supply enough bass to have a good effect when watching movies or playing games but they can not match what a good sub can do.
But the projection and midrange and high-end detail of these things is truly, for the price, astounding. However, the sheer presence of these things is so much closer to being at a live show than any speakers I have heard of.
I really love these speakers, even without a subwoofer, and that's what sold me-- eventually I'll get a sub, but even without it, I just love their sound. And the stereo separation is so clean.
And they're so balanced; yes, they have a very powerful midrange, but there is no distortion. Still, I would reccomend getting a subwoofer as I was surprised by their lack of bass; however, the bass they present is totally accurate-- it's just not big; but it's accurate.
These speakers surprised me as they seemed so lacking in bass. But if you want the whole scene, you will have to get a subwoofer.
For $300, I have never heard anything near them.
I'm using this with an Onkyo TR-606 alongside a Toshiba 62" DLP HDTV and a full set of Polk speakers, and the sound quality is remarkable. I have four of these for the four corner speakers and they do great both in music and movies and TV, with excellent separation.
I would recommend these speakers for any surround sound TV system to anyone. One of the best decisions I have made. I purchased audio speakers for my surround sound TV system. I selected Polk Audio Monitor 50 speakers. The speakers perform with clear sound and make a great addition to my system.
i use these for my rear surrounds and am extremely satisfied, great bass for a small tower. worth the money
